The Sniffer. A Ukrainian series on Netflix in the United Kingdom. A Preview and Final Review of Series One. By Clarissima.

I did find an enjoyable Russian series called The Sniffer.

Now I am quite into Russian series. Well purely on the basis of Silver Spoon (Series One) being so good. Russian series are fresh and different and less cluttered with the preachy-teachy politicking that we all know.

Men chatting up women at work! Shock horror. Women flirt back! I think I might faint. In utter horror. haven’t they heard of the isms and ists?

Quick-send them to the Gulags! Double-time (it was a joke). They must be shown The Way.

Sacre bleu. Mon dieu. I think we may all have to go lie down in a darkened room. Call for some laudanum. That will help.

Whilst we fan ourselves with our dainty hands. Or delicate fans. (not sure if they had them in Victorian times but you get the gist).

Yes, as we recover our damaged sensibilities form such indelicacies/ indelicate sights. Quivering on our day bed, an embroidered chaise longue. with drooping fluted pale hands on forehead..

Until we recover, but I digress

Russian series also have cool and funky music in the credits. You might find yourself singing along. or maybe it was jut that the laudanum was really rather good.

So I am on episode six now of Sniffer. Another good Russian series..

Don’t give up on episode one. If it seems a bit lurid. Because by episode two the series is warming up very nicely.

Without giving too much away let’s Just say a classic detecting duo soon transpires. Along with a nicely cogent central storyline running concurrently with various investigation.

Plus stunning sets and scenery and fabulous interiors. Of ancient stone brick houses from other centuries filled with gigantic ornate wooden framed mirrors. Propped up against the wall. Old and intricate armoires, and faded jewel painted walls. These are the insides of the old houses, apartments and tiny little rooms.

Then there is the industrial chic of steel and glass and silver toned offices of the SGB/ Special Investigation Bureau . And the penthouse flat. Which belongs to the best friend of a certain Sergeant. A Detective who works in the SGB.  The go-getting and serial romancer Detective is friends with a man with a very beautiful penthouse apartment: and a rather unusual skill..

Possibly my favourite piece of scenery so far in this series is a tiny wooden cabin, it used to be a sauna. Explains the beautiful elderly lady. There the cabin lays, only accessible by a boardwalk: facing the lake.

Further research on this show reveals the fact that I was mistaken to originally call it a Russian series: since it is in fact a Ukrainian series, but filmed in Russia and is in Russian.

Sourced and quoted from Wikipedia 22nd May 2018:

The Sniffer (UkrainianНюхач) is a Russian language detective series produced and shot in Ukraine by FILM.UA Television, created, co-written, and directed by Artyom Litvinenko.

16th October, 2017.
United Kingdom.

Quick note to my readers started on 30th April continuing until 13th of May 2017. Series I have been watching on Netflix and Television in the United Kingdom & This page left intentionally blank publishing publication news.

Quick note to my readers started 30th April 2017 ending on 13th of May 2017.

Netflix in the United Kingdom.

So I am over the fact now that there is a wait in the United Kingdom for series Four. I can do it..

Plus there will only be five episodes. Boo hoo. And we were used to great big galumphing nicely meaty twenty to even twenty three: episodes. In a series.

My top pick of last week:

 Netflix in the UK.
I gave this series five stars.

So having zoomed enjoyably through Nowhere Boys I discovered this:

My top pick of the next week:

 Four series.
 Netflix in the United Kingdom.
I give this series five stars.

According to IMDB there are five series.
Nb. If you look this series up online you will find it listed only as Der Bestatter.

OK it’s a Swiss series in Swiss German. With French and English subtitles.
First released in Switzerland in 2013.
Most recent series five is dated 2017.
Only four series on Netflix.

Der Bestatter has won two awards: for the award of best actor and actress for Mike Muller and Barbara Muller.

Netflix Description:
"When a former Detective takes over his fathers's funeral home, his close encounters with unusual deaths inspires him to continue investigating murders".
2016. Four seasons.

Finished this drama now. All four series. No series five yet.

My top pick of the following week.

Right now I am checking out:

Netflix in the United Kingdom.
In Spanish with English subtitles.

Which was randomly added to my list a while back now.

(in my randomly chosen intermittent sweep of Netflix for series that look interesting)

I’m on episode two now.

Mar de plástico
Netflix description:
"In a town in southern Spain where racial tensions run high among the workers in it's many greenhouses, a cop investigates the murder of a young woman".
2016. Two seasons.

Nb. This series is only listed as MAR DE PLÁSTICO.

I am seriously into this series now. Somewhere around episode eight of series one..

Later update.
Yep. Warning-this series may keep you up at night-or you may even find yourself watching during the day-just to find out what happened next..
A stonkingly good murder mystery.

Whilst superficially shlocky at times-there is enough good acting and characters along with a satisfyingly good puzzle for the viewer to figure out whodunnit..

I think my inner voice may have changed to Spanish.

Grimm Series Six.

TV Description:

"One day you're a normal Portland homicide cop.  The next: a warrior battling fairy tale monsters.  It's been quite a week."

Channel W in the UK.
Four series of Grimm are now on Netflix.
Grimm series five has just been added to Netflix.

Oh yes. And Grimm ended-nooooooo!

Sadly the series was cancelled and episode thirteen was the final episode.

I think I may agree with a comment I read somewhere (whilst attempting to unravel the gargantuan plot) that the world may well be a sadder and duller place now without Grimm.

Yep I will add that to the list of series I have loved that were cancelled: Residue. Magic City. East End Witches.

A United Kingdom British Broadcasting Services channel.

I see from a television trailer I caught whilst venturing into the dystopian hell of Eastenders tonight: that there is a bucket load of new series coming to BBC One.

So many in fact, that they, the titles of the series fill the screen at the end.

Me-I could only admire the font and sigh. I have learnt, to my cost in time and pure, dragging, dirge-like dreariness of drama series on this channel (nay- on all even commercial channels now) of hours of time spent uselessly that I will never get back. Wasted watching things on this channel.

But I digress.

Yes-I have learnt that not even the presence of a recognisable and good actor is worth putting yourself through this proselytising propaganda-fest. Which each drama is. I predict..

The Legacy Series Three.

On Sky Arts Channel in the UK.

So I am trudging my way through this series. Which has been surprisingly un-engaging this time around. For me anyway.

I really thought it was the final episode last week. But no. It’s not great when the watching of something feels like a chore. Is it.

Still keeping up with Riverdale. A bit turgid all in all however a beautiful and amazing piece of filmic work. In my opinion. Successfully creating that Gothic depiction of a comic book with characters made real.

Even if the original Archie & Veronica comics were not this dark..

Quick note to my readers started on 16th April 2017 and ended 23rd April 2017.

 This page publication news.

Published as a free pamphletino:

Silver spoon. A Mini-potted Review.
A Russian detective drama series.

Soon to be published as Pamphlets:

Some English Noir.
Two different series.

The Legacy.
In Danish with English subtitles.
Series Three.

I am open to suggestions for requests for particular series publications on Thispage..From my archives.

My favourite Top pick of this week:

One series.
A Netflix Original. 2016.
In Finnish with English subtitles.
Netflix in the United Kingdom.

Netflix description:
"A gifted Detective takes a job in a small town so the can spend more time with his family. But he's soon drawn into a web of disturbing murder cases".
Rated 15.

So whilst watching weekly installments of Riverdale, a tiresome wait indeed, I discovered what I first thought was a Scandi-noir drama. To put behind my ear. Metaphorically.

Bordertown however, turns out to be Finnish. There is no indication of this unless of course you recognise spoken Finnish I guess. Me I was thinking the drama was in Danish or Swedish . I could not tell.

I only knew it was Scandinavian for sure because of the Hospital. It was so pristine.

My top pick favourite of the following week:

Two series.

Netflix in the United Kingdom.
In Chinese with English subtitles.
More information:
from RTHK (a television channel I think):

 Elite Brigade

Elite Brigade Series One.
 here titled:
 Elite Brigade F.S.D:

This link below shows you all the episodes from series One:

The above link says there are English, French and Spanish subtitles available.

There is also a Chinese Podcast available from:
Main page.

An episode podcast example here:

No subtitle option.

Elite Brigade Series Two
OK it is series two.
This video definitely works in the UK! you can hear the music!!

Nb. This Series two link information describes only English and French sub titles available online.

There is a series three of Elite Brigade apparently but only in Chinese as yet and not on Netflix in the United Kingdom .

There are different translators for each episode I note.  From these links I discover that all the translators for Elite Brigade are voluntary.  So thank you translators!

My top pick favourite new series of this week:
Elite Brigade.

Netflix in the United Kingdom.
In Chinese with English subtitles.

Also, I watched two episodes of Elite Brigade, although the first one I realise was not numbered as one so may count as the pilot or introduction. The next episode is number one. If that makes sense.

The first episode is a sort of montage of the training sessions of a group of young trainees, firemen and paramedics. In Hong Kong.

Nb.Correction: the first episode is listed as number one I think.

So hey presto I had barely watched the introductory episode and the one after that, when i discovered I was on Series Two! How did this happen?

How did I get the introductory, heroic song about:
My tears never running dry..

And how:

My blood may run dry..

And how:

I will walk through the rain to be your hero..

(roughly paraphrased)

Yes, how did I get this singing, this song and it’s music, going round in my head?

I ask myself.

Because Elite Brigade is seriously, addictively binge-worthy. That’s why.

My other top pick favourite series.

Netflix in the United Kingdom.

In between enjoying Elite Brigade I have been binge-watching The Originals. Now sadly over. Well the end of Series three. For me.

However apparently series four of The Originals is already out in the United States. On CW Channel and Netflix. As far as I understand.

The rumour is, since no set date available for series four in the United Kingdom-The Originals series four will go on UK Netflix in August of 2017.

Since this month, August, would be the same month as in 2016: that series three was added to Netflix.

Series four is available on Amazon as DVD’s (Region 2 for the United Kingdom) and on i-tunes apparently.

The weekly installment series.

Riverdale update.
Netflix in the United Kingdom.

I am also keeping up with Riverdale. Which I note has now done that annoying two week gap: in the weekly installment thing. Not really weekly at all then.

Ergo next episode is on the 28th April 2017 (in the United Kingdom).

What a pain. This is really rather stretching the concept. Of watching a drama. Interesting. In a way.

Still, Riverdale is strong enough in itself to withstand this interval. In the story.

I guess you could say the effect is like Jughead, closing his laptop. For a while. The one upon which he writes the story..He’ll just come back to it. Later.

Update on Bordertown & The Originals Series Four.

So I am up to episode four or five now of Bordertown. which, as a series, I had metaphorically put behind my ear. For later.

So now sadly, The Originals has ended and I have spent probably far too much time, yes and inordinate amount of time: trying to watch series Four by other means…

August is too far away.

I will keep trying. There used to be a way..

Interestingly, more and more things are getting blocked. Or blocked off. On the internet. But I digress.

I have already seen some spoilers, just searching for Season Four. Oh well…

My lips are sealed.

So it’s back to Bordertown..and it’s looking, four or five episodes in: to be really rather good..

Danish Films on English Television: BBC Four.
Department Q: The Absent One (2014). One of a set of films currently showing on BBC Four.

A Mini-potted Review of Two films from The Department Q series has just been published as a free Pamphpletino on This page..
(see above for link).
BBC Four in the United Kingdom. Currently showing on Saturdays at 9pm.

Department Q: The Absent One. First aired Saturday 15th April 2017.
(two hours).
Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith.

There is one more Department Q mystery showing Saturday 22nd April 2017 at 9pm on on BBC Four.

This will be the last one in this random set of films and is called Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith. (2016).

BBC Four next Saturday 29th April 2017.

Nb. The following Saturday on BBC Four there will be a Norwegian film called Pioneer. (2013).

More on English television.
An American series.

New series of Nashville-Series Five.
To be aired on Friday, 28th April 2017.
Sky Living television Channel in the United Kingdom.

Country music of all different kinds including some sublime harmonising  live acoustic singing from Scarlet and Gunnar.  Many of the characters are real life Country & Western music stars.

Plus men in Cowboy hats with Southern charm. What’s not to love.

And of course soap operatic happenings..

I have checked out:

On Netflix in the United Kingdom.
Schitts Creek.

Netflix description:
"Suddenly broke, the formerly filthy-rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke: Schitts Creek."

Catherine O’Hara having a great time acting everyone else except maybe for her husband: off the screen.

Actually, unbelievably (in this day and age of the death of comedy, humour and satire) this series is actually funny.  Small-town stereotypes notwithstanding.

Western small town folk being the only ones left now that drama  makers are allowed to caricature.  Something tells me however that the locals will be shown to get their slow revenge..

The Roses of course will no doubt end up all chilled out too and eventually loving their new home.  This is a classic story and set up which writes itself.

The only reason any of this is funny down to the most excellent classical comedy sit-com acting of all the players involved.

I see that the excellently funny (and with amazingly expressive eyebrows) dead-panning foil to Catherine O Hara is Eugene Levy.  He is the real life father of his son in the show: Daniel Levy.

I tried. I really tried. Just a bit underwhelming and dull so far. Has the actress who played Lori from the Walking Dead early series in it.

An interesting if classical science-fiction/ post-apocalyptic premise.

Yet we miss, quite literally as in dramatically speaking: seeing the beginning, Which is only described..

Also I checked out on Netflix in the United Kingdom:

One More Time.
A Korean Television series.
A Netflix Original.

Description of One More Time:

“Disguised as a bodyguard, a special agent must complete his National Security tasks whilst pandering to the whims of his ill-tempered world star”.

This series had an interesting and promising description. But I didn’t really get into it. Not sure if it is meant to be funny. Or not.
I may return and give this series another chance..

Now I am currently watching on UK Netflix:

The Nowhere Boys.
An Australian series.

Netflix Description:
"Four disparate teen boys who would otherwise never be friends return form a school trip to din themselves in a parallel world where they don't exist".

More shows on English Television:
Grimm Series Six.
An American supernatural drama series.

I see that Netflix has had Grimm series three and four added.
I am currently watching series six on W Channel in the United Kingdom.

Quick note to my readers started on 18th March and ending on the 31st March 2017: News about my sister site-This page left intentionally blank publishing & new and returning series on UK Television and Netflix.

Quick note to my Readers.

News about my sister site:
This page left intentionally blank publishing
Some news about This sister site to this one which I set up in order to formally publish my original written work.

So dear readers I am going professional as a writer and will be selling my published work and collections of drama series over at the sister site to this one:
I will be previewing here which series I am watching and will be, unless otherwise stated, be writing about.

The sister site will be e pub files of whole series. Or sets of series. Like Teen Wolf for example which I will be putting up soon as an e pub file for Series One, two, three, four and five.

There will be a mixture on the publishing company site of written pieces that are free-which will be known as Pamphletinos.

Pamphletinos will be mini-potted reviews, film thumbnail sketches and short One-off Reviews of a series.

Pamphletinos will be (free) blog posts on this page..

Pamphlets will be the whole series with all episodes often including notes and dialogue. Pamplets will be e pub files for download.

Pamphlettes will be One-Off Reviews sometimes with notes and dialogue made on first watching. Pamphlettes will be e pub files for download.

Quick note to my readers.
Some new and returning series on Television in the United Kingdom and Netflix series.
My favourite Top Pick of Series of last week!
Teen Wolf.
 Netflix in the United Kingdom.
 Five Series. Five Stars.

So I was having a great deal of televisual fun watching the third, fourth and fifth series of Teen Wolf.
Absolutely brilliant stuff.

Teen Wolf series One, Two, Three, Four and Five Review will be published for sale on:

this Page left intentionally

Update: this e pub 2 file has just been uploaded.

My favourite top pick of series the following week!
East End Witches.
  Netflix in the UK.

Then it was equally fun watching East End Witches. Although not entirely a barrel of laughs. That’s all I can say.

An Pamphlette e-pub download file  will be published of a Review of East End Witches on this page.. soon.

Update 8th April 2017: A Pamphlette of Witches Of East End has been uploaded on:

 The Santa Clarita Diet.
  Netflix in the UK.

Before that I tried the Santa Clarita diet, the series, not an actual diet. Well that would be a little bit worrying If I actually did…

Nb. A free posting of a Pamphletino of a review of The Santa Clarita Diet will be published on thispage..soon.

Update 8th April 2017: A free Pamphletino of The Santa Clarita Diet has just been uploaded to this page..

(see link above)

The Series to put behind your ear! The one that grows on you..

  Netflix in the UK.

Then after of two episodes or chunks, ha ha, of the Sant Clarita diet, I hopped over to Riverdale. Which is really rather good. I am thinking. Watched two to three episodes. Some weekly.

Yep. It’s one of those annoying weekly series. So then I left it for a while, saving some episodes. To watch in a row. Whilst I binge-watched, gloriously, on East End Witches…

Now I have returned to Riverdale after semi-mourning the end of East End Witches and Riverdale is still good. And possibly getting even better..
But now I have watched my three episodes in a row now I discover that episode seven (the final episode I am wondering?) is not out until the 31st March 2017. What?

Noooooo. That is not weekly at all. Is it.

Nb.  I will be publishing a Pamphlet on Riverdale on This page..

  BBC One on UK Televison.
(An English soap-opera set in East London-supposedly).

Oh yes and they killed Eastenders.

There is not enough space here for all I could say about Eastenders.

However now I am only holding on for the welcome but sadly intermittent now: appearances of Dot. Who can of course electrify the screen with barely a flick of her hands or sitting in the doorway with a hot water bottle on her lap, a rug and a plate of cat food calling for her cat.

And then there is my other favourite character, Phil. Who they have sent off on a much needed imaginary holday in: actually I cannot remember..

Abroad. That’s all we need to know.

Bald-headed, irascible, intermittently but very rarely now, violent (but with a heart of gold) and alarmingly yellow lately-Shakespearean Phil.

A true star.

My favourite Top Pick series on Netflix this week!
Silver Spoon.
 UK Netflix.

So then I dipped through my list. Randomly assembled at intermittent intervals. Then forgotten about. Till now..

Something about a guy who is forced to become a Cop/ Policeman, as punishment. I know it was subtitled but didn’t know what country.

I had been thinking maybe Silver Spoon was Eastern Eastern European, or Icelandic even.

But no, At first I thought the writing might be Greek but it was revealed to be Cyrillic. Since Silver Spoon is a Russian series.

And now I am four episodes in. I didn’t even mean to watch the fourth one. In a row. I was gonna call it a night. But Silver Spoon warms up very nicely in three episodes..

A kind of Russian Spiral (series) if you like.

A review of Silver Spoon will be published as a Pamphlet soon on this page..

(see link below)

  New Series.
FOX Television Channel in the United Kingdom.
 A mini-potted Review.

For free Pamphletino-a Mini Potted Review of Legion.

Grimm. Series Six. Channel W on English Television.
Early series are on Netflix.
First aired on

Hurray! “The Spirit Aspirateur” Oh no!

35 Diwrnod. Thirty Five days. A Welsh series.
In Welsh with English subtitles.
On Welsh Television channel number S4C in the United Kingdom.
Can be watched online.
 New series Three.

Probably good. If not very good. Series One was. I just didn’t have the patience to go through a similar experience. Of watching another series.
Nb. I wrote about Series One of 35 Days/ 35 Diwrnod.

This will be published on

Homeland Series Six.
Channel Four, United Kingdom Television channel.
A mini-potted Review of The First Twenty Minutes.
 Episode One.

Right now I am watching:
 The Originals.
 On Netflix.

More silly supernatural shenanigans.  With much gore.

Later update on The Originals.

I had tried this series once before. And ditched. Not having got into the story. Thinking that this was a silly and superficial drama. Not for me.

But then I came back to The Originals later. When I just couldn’t settle into anything else. Or just couldn’t be bothered. With anything else on offer. and I did try.

Principal, Greenleaf, I tried both. Principal being well acted and beautifully filmed but tediously predictable and sententious.

Somehow I’m guessing that this Australian production is the equivalent of the BBC.

Greenleaf, I ditched after the prologue and the opening credits. Tediously predictable too.

13 Reasons.
Netflix in the United Kingdom.

So now there is a new story or series on Netflix: the story of Hannah. Her suicide. Why did she do it? Seemingly a real life story. Great. I think I’ll pass.

The Originals.

So thence I returned to The originals. Being that they have made us wait untold/ umpteen weeks for the next episode of Riverdale.

I started from the beginning again. Of the Originals. Then after watching further on than where I had previously ditched: I was hooked.

The Originals is seriously binge-worthy.

Also: new series of The Legacy. Arvingerne. A Danish family saga drama series.

Sky Arts channel in the United Kingdom. Thursdays at 9pm First aired 30th March 2017.

Which brings us back to Riverdale, episode seven I believe, tonight, 31st March (at the time of writing) 2017..

I hope Y’all will find something to read that you enjoy on the new sister site over at my new publishing adventure!

Nb. All original written work of reviews in the form of download e-pub files will be only one pound!

I am happy to receive suggestions from readers for publications of series (I have about six years of back catalogue of work) and any feedback on possible bugs, layouts of e-pub books and so on..

Thispage works for future publication:
